Deep Impression from My New Friends

四月 13, 2007

beautiful singapore      What did you guys do during this Easter Holiday? I guess you must have a lot of wonderful trips and activities.Yes, for me,I only stayed here in my university.Nothing special. But,I met people from Singapore in SC.Actually that can not make me feel so excited. One of my best friends is studying in Singapore,So I had heard some things from him about Singapore. When I talked to those guys from Singapore, they were very astonished.Because they had thought that Singapore is a tiny country.Nobody cares about it.Meanwhile, those guys gave me a big surprise, also. They can speak Chinese very well, even some dialects in China. For sure, their English is very good.At that time, I was thinking about something if I was born in Singapore, that would be perfect. It is because I can speak at least two kinds of languages when I was very little. But nobody can change their lives.Frankly, I thought Singapore is one of the most beautiful cities in the world(actually Singapore is only a big city). But i didn’t know more about their culture and people. Those guys gave me a chance to know them more. They gave me a very deep impression. Also,we are good friends now! There are a lot of interesting things happened during this Easter Holidays between those guys and me.You wanna know more? Read my next post. You will not wait for it too long.

你能接受同性戀嗎?(do you accept gays or lesbians?)

(A  recent survey suggests that approximately 2.8 percent of men in the United States identify themselves as gay and 1.4 percent of women identify themselves as lesbian. In modern society, people are changing their attitudes and beginning to accept gays and lesbians. So,if you are the boss of a company, will you accept gays or lesbians to be your employees? If your answer is YES,what benefits those people will offer you?If your answer is NO,why? we need your answer!)

Coping with Culture Shock

Good evening ladies, gentlemen and honorable judges. I’m glad to stand here to share my ideas about how to cope with culture shock.

As we all know, every country, every nationality has its own culture. Including.Macao. So for us youngsters, if we want to study abroad and have a wonderful future, we should know how to cope with culture shock. I think in this field, our school can help us a lot.

I have a friend who has already been studying abroad for a couple of years. He always told me that he felt his handshake was not as firm as American’s, his modest saying made his classmates laugh at him after getting compliments…… Yes, that is a big problem! He is like a fish out of water. A fish doesn’t know what water is. Likewise we have no idea about foreign cultures. But if you want to be an international citizen, you should conquer it! It is a piece of cake!

Maybe some people will ask me, we are Chinese,China is a big country. Our homeland has everything. We don’t need to go abroad. Why should we cope with culture shock?

Yes, they are right. Without any doubt,China is a great country. But, you know,China has become a member of the World Trade Organization. So, more and more foreigners will come to China. On the other hand, more and more Chinese will go abroad. That means we have to adjust to foreign cultures.

Here is a very good example. Everybody knows Yao Ming, right? He is an excellent basketball player. Of course, he is a Chinese. When he stepped to the NBA the first time. he seemed like a layman. All of his teammates come from different cultures. He proved to be talented. But he didn’t how to advance how to defend even, he didn’t understand English. But haste makes waste. He need to do something to change the situation. Now look at him, he gets a big leap of advancement. He knows how to use his height and skills. Even he can cope with the “meat walls”.

If memory serves me well, a journalist askedYao “how can you adapt to American lifestyle so fast?”Yao smiled and answered “I have to be confident of myself.” Yes confidence is the key to cope with such culture. So we should get it when we graduate from MUST.

Well, confidence is not easy to get. But it is not impossible. You should prepare to get it. That means anybody can dream through the whole life you can’t dream through one hour. Because you are in the MUST. It teaches you to have a goal to be the citizen of the world.  Thank you all

Chill out!

What you yelled before.

The early April is over,now.

You can’t see the rain any more.

The passers-by are as usual.

You are puzzled,but awake.

You know paradise is far from here.

Don’t ask the shepherd boy.

He does his business.

All of things look like a maze.

Don’t complain any more.

Life like this.Life is complicated.
